I’m never going to complain about the M25 again. There have been times when I’ve felt that I’ve spent a fair percentage of my life sat in tail-backs on that infernal motorway but I realise now that I have nothing to moan about in comparison to what happened recently in China.

A friend of mine reported an interesting incident to me the other day. He was followed into work by a white van that kept on flashing him. Thinking it was some kind soul trying to tell him that his Audi TT was leaking petrol or had a flat tyre, he slowed down to pull in. The van pulled alongside, so close that it forced him into the kerb. The driver then berated my friend for having just blinded him with the daytime running lights (DRLs) - that row of fairy lights you see on quite a few German cars. Read the rest of this entry »
The Jaguar car company celebrates its 75th anniversary this year. Of course, it has gone through a lot of iterations since it was founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company by Sir William Lyons in 1922. Now it is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Indian company Tata Motors Ltd. Read the rest of this entry »
Most of us don’t need to be told about the rising costs of motoring. Everything - road tax, fuel prices and insurance cover - is on the increase, yet for motorists who are dependent on their cars for work or because they live in rural areas poorly served by public transport, there is little alternative but to pay up. When Henry Ford revealed the Model T - the world’s first mass-produced car - in 1908, he famously stated that you could have it in any colour you liked, so long as it was black. Well the company has returned to its roots with the announcement of a special edition Focus RS500, of which only 500 will be built and all of them in matte black.

Cosworth is a name synonymous with fast cars. Its engines powered most of the Formula One field of the 1970s and it stayed within the sport for years, notching up success after success. After a brief absence, it has returned to the Grand Prix scene this year providing engines for the Williams, Lotus, Virgin and HRT teams.

The summer is upon us and for motoring and motor sport fans in the UK that means one thing - the Goodwood Festival of Speed, which takes place on 2nd - 4th July this year.
The Festival has long established itself on the social calendar as one of those ‘must-see’ and ‘must-be-seen-at’ events – a uniquely intoxicating blend of speed and drama played out across the parkland in front of Goodwood House, in West Sussex. The ultimate garden party for the petrolhead, this is the sort of event where you simply don’t know where to look first. It’s automotive sensory overload – everything from Edwardian racers up to modern Formula One machinery.
If you’ve neglected your car over the winter and the cold spring because: a) it was too cold to go outside and clean it and b) you couldn’t see the point because it would only get covered in slush and grime within a hundred metres of your home anyway, then it’s time to get the hose and sponge out.
Looking for somewhere different to take the kids this summer? Have Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures and Disneyland Paris become old hat? Then why not take a quick flight over to Abu Dhabi and experience the world’s latest theme park – Ferrari World? Read the rest of this entry »
The automotive world seems split into two extremes at the moment. On the one hand there’s the push towards ‘green’ motoring with electric/hybrid/alternative fuel vehicles springing up all over the place, but then there seems to be no let up in the number of faster-than-a-speeding-bullet supercars being announced either.
