Austin Airport
Austin-Berstrom International Airport (AUS) is located about five miles southeast of Austin’s city centre. Serving over eight million passengers a year, the airport is one of Texas’ more popular mixed-use commercial airports. Because it serves the entire Austin region, the airport is an excellent hub for car rental.
The Barbara Jordan Terminal is Austin Airport’s newest terminal and offers a cultural experience coming and going. Before walking through any of the 25 gates, travellers may experience live musical performances, local cuisines and typical passenger services such as ATMs, tourist information counters and lost and found centres. There are a number of car rental counters available at the airport and it is best to book in advance to avoid long lines and confusion at the arrival terminal.
Passengers at the airport are spoiled for choice in the food and beverage department. The airport offers over 15 dining venues, which include everything from local Austin fare to international cuisine. Harlon’s Country Breakfast and Barbeque is an excellent place to spend before a morning flight while Earl Campbell’s Sports Bar makes for entertaining evening fun.
There are plenty of venues to choose from for last minute souvenirs or reading materials. Take back a taste of Austin with barbeque sauces and salsas from Barton Springs Dry Goods. BookPeople offers everything from travel guidebooks to romance novels. T-shirts, ball caps and other city paraphernalia are all available at Austin Attitudes. Massage services along with flowers, banking facilities and internet services are all available.
There are taxi, limousine and shuttle services available throughout the day at the airport. The Capital Metro Bus delivers passengers from the airport to various areas within the city. Depending on the final destination, buses run in 20 to 40 minute intervals.
The airport is accessible via Highway 71 to US Route 183. General Aviation Avenue is the most direct route for accessing the south terminal. Car rental is the most convenient option for travelling to and from the airport.
