Boise Airport

Also known as Gowen Field, Boise Airport (BOI) is located just a few miles from the city centre. The airport is a joint civil-military facility and it shares its runways with the Idaho Air National Guard. The airport is an excellent hub for car rental as it serves a significant part of the region.

Boise Airport has two lanes that cover over 5,000 acres of land. Major US airlines such as Delta Air, Frontier Air and Northwest Airlines operate flights to and from cities including Salt Lake City, Minneapolis and Chicago. Passenger services include gift concessions, food and beverage venues and security checkpoints. Car rental services are available and include all major suppliers. Rentals cars may be picked up just outside of baggage claim and it is best to book in advance.

Quiznos and McDonalds are just of the fast food restaurants that are available. Maui Taco, Kopper Kitchen and Moxie Java offer more of a home-cooked meal experience. The Canyon Crossings Bar and Varsity Grill and Sports Bar are great evening venues for late afternoon or evening flights. Shopping at the airport consists of the Boise River Marketplace and White Pines Travel Mart. Other services include the CNBC news centre, The Idaho Business Review Outpost, ATMs, chapels and shoe shine services.

The airport’s ground transportation can be found on the lower level near the baggage claim area. Valley Ride and Sun Valley Express are bus companies, which deliver new arrivals to surrounding cities such as Ada and Tamarack from the airport. There are also a few courtesy shuttles and taxis on-hand for travellers.

I-84 connects the airport to the eastern and western region of the city. If coming from the north or south, 9th Street connects to Vista Avenue, which turns into Airport Way. Car rental is the easiest option for navigating the interstate highways and accessing other areas of the city.
