Lambert Saint Louis Airport

The first ever municipal airport in the United States, Lambert St Louis Airport boasts a history packed with stories. It was the site of the first parachute jump taken by a human and also boasts being the departure location of the first flight taken by a sitting US president, just after WWI.

The airport services around 90 domestic and international destinations and handles more than 15 million passengers each year while also being a popular car rental pick-up location.

The airport has two terminals, the Main and East, which contain the usual departure and arrival facilities, and also incorporates a United Service Organisations lounge to accommodate forces personnel on their way through the airport. The Main Terminal manages both domestic and international departures and arrivals, while the East Terminal is restricted to domestic flights.

The two terminals are linked by a free-to-use Metrolink rail connection but can also be reached via shuttle bus connections which leave from exit 17 in the Main building and exit 12 of the East Terminal.

Plenty of bars, shops, cafés and restaurants can be found inside the terminals plus a substantial food court. There are newsstands, bookshops, souvenir places and coffee shops inside, but there is no duty free store. Lambert St Louis boasts the usual airport accoutrements, including currency exchange bureaux, banking services and ATMs plus a business centre offering internet connectivity. The airport also has good facilities for disabled people, with wheelchairs available upon request.

In terms of accessing St Louis city centre, the quickest and easiest means of getting downtown is by the Metrolink rail connection. Two lines connect the airport to the city centre and the downtown Gateway Transportation Center, home to Amtrak countrywide rail services and Greyhound buses. For journeys beyond downtown, a rental car is the best mode of transport and should be booked online in advance.
