Located between the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain, New Orleans is protected by levees. In 2005, the Katrina hurricane put terrible constraints on them and they eventually broke down. New Orleans was widely inundated, modifying the cityscape forever and ruining many lives. However, New Orleans has since slowly recovered and is fit and ready for tourists.
