Sacramento Airport

Sacramento is the capital of the great US state of California, was one of the main distribution points during the California Gold Rush and has been rated by many American citizens as one of the nicest places in the country to live. The city is served by Sacramento Airport, located around 16kms northwest of downtown, and the airport operates as the main rental car collection and drop-off point.

Sacramento is an ideal place to base oneself for getting out and about around California and along its coastline. The city is based inland alongside the Sacramento River, but offers great access to famous destinations around the state. San Francisco is easily reachable by rental car, around a 1 hour, 30 minutes drive away, while perhaps one of the most enticing things about the city is that it sits next door to the stunning natural beauty of Yosemite National Park.

The famous Tioga Road is a beautiful route to take through the park, but all of the roads in the park are beautifully scenic.

A favourite day out from Sacramento is to take in a tour of the state’s famous wine country by rental car. The surrounding countryside of Sacramento is home to many excellent vineyards, all around an hour’s drive from the city centre, including the famous Napa Valley. Depending on what time of year you come to Sacramento, there is also world class skiing to be had at the renowned Lake Tahoe.

The downtown area of Sacramento is a thriving and bustling US city though far quieter than its Californian colleagues San Francisco and Los Angeles. The city centre is home to as many fine hotels, great eating establishments and shopping outlets as one would expect from a developed west coast destination.
