Reports now show that almost 20 people were injured due to turbulence that was felt on a United Airlines plane that was in route from Washington D.C. to Japan. Apparently most of the people just received some bruises and bumps. However, one report did show that at least one passenger did suffer from a broken leg.
A police official at Tokyo’s Narita International Airport, Tetsuya Shinozuka, said that many of the injuries were not very bad. He did go on to note that he was not able to give out any further details about the person who broke his leg during the flight.
A spokesman for United Airlines, Mike Trevino, said that about halfway into the 13 hour flight, the pilot advised passengers to put their seat belts on. A very short time later, the plane started to experience some moderate turbulence.
The spokesman did go on to decline to talk about any of the injuries. The only information that the spokesman would give out was the fact that United Airlines was indeed cooperating with health officials.
Despite the truculence that was felt during the flight, The United Airlines flight, which was operated by a Boeing 747, made it to its destination on time. There were some 263 people who were on board the flight.
It is unclear how 20 people out of the 263 people were injured. Some airline experts say that it is possible that the people did not put their seat belt on like the captain ordered. However, these comments are just rumors and have, in no way, been confirmed.
