Lately, airlines have been going through a lot of heat over their policies on overweight passengers. Recently this issue blew up when well known film director Kevin Smith was kicked off a flight because of his size. Mr Smith went on to focus his anger on Southwest Airlines and even posted a comment on his Twitter page about it.
However, Kevin Smith is not the only one that has been struggling with airlines’ overweight passenger policies. Other passengers have reported having problems as well. So why all of the sudden did this blow up? Well it seems that Southwest Airlines chose to kick the wrong person off the plane that day.
Some experts point out that Southwest Airlines has recently been trying to cover their tracks. They have said that Kevin Smith was kicked off due to the overall weight of the plane and not his weight per-say. However, this news only came out after Kevin Smith posted on Twitter about it and was scheduled to go on the Larry King Show.
So, despite the fact that Southwest Airlines has already apologized to Mr Smith and admitted that the event could have been handled a bit differently, and changed their story up a bit, people are still up in arms about the whole thing. This has led the carrier to do damage control.
Recent stories about overweight passengers have gained tons of comments from readers who are passionate about the whole issue. Although some people are for overweight passengers having to buy two seats, others point out that it’s a very thin line of what’s right and what’s not. It’s very easy to see now how these kinds of policies can get out of hand very quickly.
