It now seems that AirTran Airways was forced to cancel almost 58 Atalanta flights yesterday. This was due, in large part, to the Winter Weather Warnings in the North part of Georgia. This area, and surrounding areas had to brace themselves for more snow.
To start off with, AirTran was only planning on canceling around 40 flights from the city. However, as the Snow Warnings increased, the airline ended up having to cancel even more flights the night before. In an AirTran statement, the company said that it encouraged people traveling to or from Atlanta on Tuesday to check the status of their flight on the airline’s main website before they left for the airport.
The airline went on to say that passengers who are traveling to or from Atlanta on Tuesday may want to adjust their travel date. In light of this information, AirTran noted that it would allow such customers to change their travel dates up to five days from their originally scheduled date of travel based on space availability. Customers who choose to change their travel date will not be subject to fees that are normally associated with changing travel dates.
Right now AirTran operates upwards of 750 no frills flights each day. A lot of these flights come out of its main hub at Hartsfiled Jackson Atlanta International Airport. This is one of the busiest airports in the world in terms of number of flights handled everyday.
To help compensate for this disruption caused by snow, AirTran is launching a sale for travel from Atlanta to all of the airline’s destinations. Fares are available for purchase until March 4th with travel valid between June 1st and September 7th.
