Although some airlines are trying to tone down how much they charge for bringing on bags, other airlines are choosing to raise their price. In Fact, AirTran Airways has just recently announced that it will be increasing its charge for checking a bag from $15 up to $20. This $5 increase was announced on the carrier’s website just recently. The announcement said that the changes will take affect for everyone that flies with them starting September 1.

Of course, AirTran is not the only airline that is charging more. In fact, AirTran’s $20 charge matches those that were just recently imposed by Frontier and Alaska. However, some experts are quick to point out that things could be a lot worse.

Experts say that, while some passengers are upset about this increase in fees, things could be a lot worse. In fact, this amount of money is still a lot less than several other well known carriers.

However, on that same note, some passengers are starting to turn their backs on airlines that charge for bringing on bags and going with airlines that do not. For example, JetBlue and Southwest Airlines are the only domestic carriers right now that do not charge for the first bag that consumers bring, meaning that they are starting to see an increase in the number of consumers that want to fly with them as other airlines continue to increase their fee.

An AirTran spokesperson said that they are going to be hiking up the fee due to rising fuel costs. Airlines that do not raise the price of carrying on bags are likely to increase the fee of something else. Airlines have to do whatever they can to cover the rising fuel costs.
