Reports are now showing that an American Airlines flight, which was bound for New York, had to be stopped at San Francisco airport just before takeoff. This flight was stopped following an FBI tip off of a possible hijacking attempt.

One witness said that two passengers attracted some suspicion after the threat was reported. They were taken off the plane in handcuffs. However, police did later confirm that no one was in custody, and the FBI described the threat as non-credible.

American Airlines Flight 24 had been due to depart at 7:30am local time from the San Francisco International Airport. It was grounded at around 10am after a late departure from the gate. Passengers were removed from the plane and taken by buses to a terminal, where they were sent through security yet again.

One official said that the FBI in San Francisco recorded the threat as a potential hijacking. The event happened on a Boeing 767 that had already been delayed for more than two hours. There were some 163 passengers and 11 crew members on board.

The passengers who were on the plane at the time did go on to describe the incident as pretty calm. Passengers that had internet access where searching the web for details about the incident as it was going on. Police eventually entered through the back door and arrested two passengers.

The other people on the plane were escorted off and put on a bus. San Francisco Police Department officers screened all of the passengers and their carry-on luggage. This was all done with hand held security wands. In the end, no threat was detected.
