The housekeeping manager that works at the one of New York’s most well known hotels, the Jumeirah Essex House hotel, has now been arrested for the murder of a woman that was staying at one of the hotel’s apartments. Apparently the housekeeping manager, Derrick Praileau, age 29, went into the apartment where the women was sleeping and tired to rape her. The woman, Andree Bejjani age 44, was an investment adviser.
However, the woman awoke and resisted against Derrick. When she did, he strangled her and slashed her throat. The manager had worked at the hotel since he was 17 years old. He has now been charged with second degree murder and was ordered to be held, without bail, until the hearing.
The hotel said in a statement that the incident occurred in one of the private condominiums. The hotel went on to send out their sincere condolences to the victim’s family, and they offer their full support for the family during this very difficult time.
Jumeirah Essex House hotels also said that they understand that a long term hotel employee has now been arrested and is being charged with this event. However, they continue to fully cooperate with the police during the investigation. They also wanted people to understand that this is now a criminal matter and is being handled by the law.
The killer is currently married with two kids. He told police that he had been drinking all night before getting to work an hour early at 5am after the attack occurred. The police were able to catch the man after he left his blood stained shoes and shirt in his apartment.
