Just last Saturday, many passengers were forced to evacuate a British Airways jet in Phoenix, Arizona as the cabin of the plane began to fill up with smoke just before take off. Hundreds of people were on board during the event and had to use the inflatable escape slide to leave the Boeing 747 that was on its way to Heathrow.

Reports show that, as the British Airways jet started to taxi down the runway, fumes began to fill the cabin and people started to choke and cough. Some passengers report that there was a very strong smell of fuel, and all the people could hear was other people panicking. Other people were screaming that it was hard to breath. Many parents became worried about their children, fearing that they could not breath because of all the smoke that filled up in the jet.

The passengers asked if the door could be opened, but the British Airways cabin crew said that it was not possible, because the plane was still in motion. It was around this time that their was a lot of pushing and shoving on the plane as people tried to get off.

A writer from Sedona, Arizona said that she heard someone yell fire, and the doors were thrown open. All of the 298 passengers that were on board the plane were able to escape down the emergency slide. As people exited the plane, people started to run as fast as they could.

Only about 15 people received cuts and bruises, and engineers are still trying to figure out what went wrong. British Airways was unable to confirm any kind of reports of the fire being started by an electric fault on board.
