Apparently the threat of a British Airways strike did not die with the court ruling last week. Union bosses have already warned the airline that a strike could still take place early next year. The planned 12 day strike over Christmas was just recently considered illegal, and the union said that it was likely to ballot crew members again in the New Year.

British Airways and the union are due to meet in High Court on February 1st. This time they are going to see if the airlines’ new working practices are a change to the crew contracts or not. It is very likely that the union will wait for the decision of the High Court on this matter before they choose to do another ballot for industrial action.

A statement that was just recently released by the union stated that British Airways must accept the fact that no resolution can be accepted unless it’s through negotiations. Without negotiations, there will be further reasons to ballot for a strike.

The union said that it would poll members again for industrial action after the Christmas holiday. A second ballot would take a few months for the union to be able to put together. The High Court ruled in favor of British Airway, because some of the crew members that actually voted for the industrial action had already taken voluntary redundancies.

The airline said that hundreds of thousands of families in the UK welcome the decision by the High Court. Almost 900,000 people were likely to be affected by a strike had it gotten the go ahead.
