It has now been revealed that the Business Travel Coalition asked U.S. Congress and the Federal Aviation Administration this week to immediately investigate the working conditions and maintenance practices of Amerijet International. The Business Travel Coalition feels that Amerijet International could be putting people and the environment at risk every single day.
Some things that have been said is that there are apparently no toilets aboard the air cargo operator’s Boeing 727’s. These same reports go on to say that the Female pilots are required to squat and defecate into bags. The same is supposedly true for the male pilots who have bags to urinate in hanging just outside the cockpit door. Other reports also note that there is no food or water on board these jets.
It has also been said that Amerijet’s sick leave policy, 18 hour work days, low $30,000 co pilot salaries, and pilot fatigue are causing dangerous crew resource management problems. It is also said that any pilots that call out sick even 7 hours before a flight is docked two days pay. This is causing some pilots to want to work in sick or exhausted conditions.
The Business Travel Coalition sources at Amerijet also said that, almost 3 or 4 times a month, the carrier’s planes are forced to return back to Miami International Airport. This is due to the same maintenance problems that are constantly written up, and it would appear that they are not being addressed properly.
According to the Business Travel Coalition, these problems need to be investigated by both Congress and the Federal Aviation Administration before a tragedy occurs.
