Doctors in Thailand say that a British couple who were the victims of gang rape were probably given the date rape drug, Dormicum. The couple, who were celebrating the end of a year-off work travelling around the globe, claimed their horrendous experience happened after they met another English woman and three Frenchmen in a bar.
42-year-old Richard and 31-year-old Susan believe that the drug was put into their drinks after two of group left for a short while before returning to rejoin the party. Susan then claims that things started to get a little blurred and vaguely remembers being taken back to the couple’s bungalow by one of the Frenchmen. It was here that the rape allegedly took place. Richard claims that he was made to watch whilst the Frenchmen assaulted his wife and later endure them standing over him explaining what they had done to her. He also claims that he himself was subject to sexual assault.
Although the couple claim that they do not think their complaints were afforded the attention they deserved Thai authorities say that a full investigation into the matter is now underway. Richard and Susan have since been flown back to the U.K. to be with their families. A representative from the British Embassy in Bangkok has said that they have been in constant contact with the couple and that they would be following up the progress of the investigation with the Thai Police. Although the attacks took place in Thailand at no point have any Thai nationals been accused of any involvement in the horrific incident.
