One of the last things that people want to hear when on a plane is: “ This is an emergency, we will shortly be making an emergency landing on water.” Unfortunately, this is just what happened for people who were flying on a British Airways flight out of Miami, Florida to London. Reports go on to show that travelers woke up in horror to this per-recorded message that apparently got played by mistake.
So far, reports show that the cabin crew on BA flight 0206 played an emergency message at 3am by mistake. This message caused fear in passengers, despite the fact that there was really no problem.
Duncan Farquharson, who was one of the passengers on the plane, said that they all just looked at each other and figured they were about to die. Families and little kids on the plane were distraught. Many people were in tears. It was very distressing.
Mr. Farquharson went on to say, about 30 seconds later, the cabin crew told everyone on the plane to ignore the announcement. They apologized for the mistake. However, the tone of the cabin crew member’s voice did not seem to grasp just how seriously everyone on the plane had just taken that message.
A spokesman for British Airways said the cabin crew canceled the announcement immediately. They sought to reassure passengers that the flight was operating as it should. The airline did go on to apologize to consumers for causing them undue concern.
