It seems that peoples’ interest in taking a vacation to Disney World has not died out just yet. In fact, Disney was able to reach its goal Tuesday of getting one million people to sign up for a day of volunteering in exchange for a free one day ticket to a Disney theme park.

The program, which is called “Give a Day, Get a Disney Day”, gives a free day’s admission to any park at Disneyland in Anaheim, California or at Walt Disney World near Orlando, Florida for providing volunteer work at a certified HandsOn Network organization. HandsOn is a clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities.

The program itself was announced last fall, but the program rules required the volunteer work to take place this year. Disney announced Tuesday that the program had reached its cap of 1 million people. The chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, Tom Staggs, said that by any measure, the Give a Day, Get a Disney Day has exceeded their expectations.

Although the registration for the free tickets is now closed, those who were certified for the program by the HandsOn Network have until December 15th to redeem their free park tickets. Of course, some blackout dates do apply.

Volunteers can no longer get free tickets to the parks, but people who are interested in still volunteering can still look for opportunities through the HandsOn Network. Projects that used volunteers in the Give a Day, Get a Disney Day program ranged from cleanups to affordable housing construction. This program proved that a ticket to Disney World can make people do just about anything.
