The world’s tallest tower, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, has just recently seen its observation deck get shutdown. Tourists headed to this tower will be disappointed, as the owners of the tower had to close off public access to the deck as of Monday. The closing of the deck was due to electrical problems.

Right now there is a lack of information from the building’s owners about the closing of the deck. Thus, it remains unclear whether the rest of the largely empty building, including the dozens of elevators, were affected by this shutdown.

This sudden closure comes as Dubai struggles to revive its image amid nagging questions about its financial health. The Gulf Arab city state has hoped that this 2,717 foot tower would be a major tourist attraction. However, with the observation deck now closed, it has turned out to be a big tourist let down.

This tower in Dubai is still a sight to see. It is said that the tower itself can be seen from miles around. In recent weeks, thousands of tourists have lined up for a chance to buy advance tickets for viewing times, often days later, that cost more than $27 a piece. Now many of those would-be-visitors must get back in line for refunds.

One such tourist said that the whole thing is very disappointing. He said that he showed up to the tower entrance on Monday with this ticket for the afternoon time, only to find out that it was closed. He went on to say that the new tower was one of the main reasons for coming to Dubai in the first place.
