Although a lot of people are going to try and hit the east coast to get in that last perfect vacation before summer ends, it seems that it may not be possible. Lifeguards are already telling swimmers and surfers to stay close to shore.
On beaches from Maryland to New Jersey, strong rip currents and strong swells in the Atlantic Ocean are causing swimming restrictions. These strong rip currents are associated with Hurricane Danielle. These swimming restrictions were given out on Monday, but reports are now suggesting that it could just get worse.
A second hurricane, Earl, has already strengthened to a Category 4 storm. It is packing winds near 135 miles per hour. It bettered Puerto Rico on Monday. The story is right now that it’s expected to zip up the east coast. It would bring at least some rough seas to the east cost. However, it could possibly bring tropical storm conditions like strong winds and heavy rain.
Earl is on a path to possibly brush the east coast of the United States later on this week. It would move near North Carolina by Thursday and pass by Maine on Saturday. It is still too early to tell exactly where it will go.
The best advice that people have been given is to stay close to shore for now. However, as Earl comes closer to the coast, conditions are likely to change. This could ruin a lot of peoples’ holiday plans just as the end of summer nears. Many people missed out on taking their vacations earlier this year due to the economic downturn and being scared to spend money.
