It seems like, no matter what, the European Union is refusing to drop is Emission Trading Scheme. In fact, despite some very heavy pressure from the United States, the European Union has made it overly clear that they will continue to move forward with this plan. Officials from the union said that giving up on this scheme at this point is out of the question. After all, the scheme has already been approved.

Currently, the European Court is to rule this week on the European Union’s decision to include all airlines in this Emissions Trading Scheme. This would of course come into effect starting January 1. This is an option that has upset airlines form all over the world.

Now, as this new deadline looms, United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has joined a mounting rebellion against this scheme. She said that airlines and states need to take appropriate action. She said that they strongly urge the European Union, and all of its member states to reconsider this current course. Halt or at least delay this scheme. Re-engage with the rest of the world.

She finished up by saying that the United States stands ready to engage in such an effort. Absent such willingness on the part of the European Union, the United States, as well as other countries, will be forced to take action.

Currently, the European Commission is not commenting on this matter. However, it does not appear that the European Union is going to change their minds at all. This is a matter that they feel is already set in stone.
