It now appears that the FBI is investigating the disappearance of an Italian chef who is now missing from the Coral Princess, which is a cruise ship belonging to Princess Cruises. Some suggest that the chef may have went overboard during the Caribbean cruise.

An FBI spokeswoman, Laura Eimiller said that the FBI got involved in the case at the request of the Italian Consulate in Los Angeles. The family of the 31-year-old chief is expected to board the Princess Cruises’ Coral Princess, which just recently docked at the Port of Los Angeles, to talk to officials.

Sources say that the chef was last seen on a deck the morning of November 26th. It was here that he spoke with another crew member as the ship sailed from Aruba to Colombia. A search of the ship and a review of the security cameras on the ship came up empty. The chef’s family, however, say that they have been told that he unexpectedly left the gallery the night before, when working on the dinner shift, and never returned.

Princess Cruises said a life preserver was found missing but the cruise line is not certain whether it had anything to do with the disappearance of the chef. Apparently the nighttime illumination flares had been torn off the preserver and left aboard the ship.

The family of the chef thinks that foul play was involved and that it was not a suicide. Bermuda police are leading the investigation since Bermuda is the ship’s flag state. The Coral Princess had left South Florida on November 23th. More information on this story is sure to surface soon.
