It now seems, according to Hotels.com’s Hotel Price Index, that New York City hotel rates have dropped by 30 percent in the first half of the year when compared to 2008. This big drop actually ties Las Vegas hotels as the biggest price fall among major United States cities.

Of course, the big price drop has not helped New York travelers too much. In fact, hotels in New York are still the most expensive hotel prices in all of the United States. In fact, these hotels are the seventh most expensive in the world. Boston and Washington have the third and second highest in the United States respectively. The prices in DC actually fell by 11 percent and Boston saw a drop of 16 percent.

The senior director of merchandising for Hotels.com, Steve Dumaine, said that Hotel rates are at a histrionic low right now. Thus, its the perfect time for travelers to take advantage of these great deals on New York City hotels. This may be peoples’ best chance to stay at some of the New York City hotels that used to be outside their price range.

It has also been revealed that both United States and international travelers love going to New York City. In fact, New York City was actually ranked as the second most popular travel destination among American travelers and the first most popular with international travelers.

For the most part, the fall in room rates was driven by the price drops across every single state in the United States. The only state that did not see a fall in rates was North Dakota, where the hotel rates remain flat.
