Apparently hundreds of tourists were just recently evacuated from a popular beach in Ibiza. This evacuation was going on as just about every firefighter on the Spanish resort island were trying to tackle a nearby forest fire.
Reports show that some 1,500 people, who had gathered on the beach in Benirras bay for a sunset party, were evacuated. The reports go on to show that the people had to be evacuated by boat as it became clear that the tourists could soon be stranded by the raging fire.
So far, initial estimates say that the fire covered an area of around 250 acres in the north of the Mediterranean island. The reports also show that just about every firefighter on the island was mobilized to try and put out the fire. Reinforcements were drafted from the neighborhood island of Majorca as the blaze moved towards the pine forest surrounding the beach.
Some online photos have shown pictures of a car lot that was near the fire. The pictures show nothing but tons of cars completely destroyed after they were set alight. These same reports suggested that the fire broke out Sunday evening and was still raging out of control on Monday.
A lot of the people that had to be evacuated had some light injuries. Some of the injuries included burns, panic attacks and smoke inhalation. It also seems that around a dozen homes near the beach were also evacuated.
This Benirras beach is a secluded bay in the north of the Spanish island. It is a very popular resort for celebrities. In fact, it has hosted such big names as Sadie Frost, Sienna Miller and Kate Moss.
