It now seems that a female driver and a child that was on her lap were able to survive a head on crash with an aquarium. Apparently the motorist slammed the car into a 1,500 gallon aquarium at the Tampa International Airport. The good news is that the two involved in the crash were fine; however, the tropical fish that were in the tank did not make out so well.

Airport officials went on to say that a 36 year old women, Yamile Campuzano Martine, lost control of her truck and drove it into a saltwater tank outside the American Airlines baggage claim last Monday night. A spokeswomen for the airport, Brenda Geoghagan, said that the driver had an unrestrained 6 year old boy in her lap at the time of the crash.

After the crash, about 90 percent of the 30 to 40 saltwater fish in the tank died before they could be placed back into water. The aquarium was part of the airport’s public art program. The airport had spent about $200,000 on the aquarium, which did include a big 12 foot tank.

The 36 year old women was cited for careless driving. However, it is still unclear what kind of charges will be brought on the woman or if she will be made to pay any money back to the airport. People at the airport said that it was a miracle that no one, besides the fish, where hurt or even killed in this crash. It just goes to show that people are not safe from careless drivers, even when inside the airport.
