Tourists coming to Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport will find getting to the new 67.5-acre rental center will be easier thanks to the new Sky Train. The rental center is not slated to open until early November, but the move to a sky train over the more traditional shuttle bus system, is hoped to take dozens of buses of the road, easing congestion.
The move to consolidate car rental areas is becoming an increasing trend in airports across the United States. Cities such as Phoenix and Ft Lauderdale have already adopted a similar system, while cities such as Seattle and Boston hope to implement one in the future.
Atlanta is the fourth largest rental car market in the country, and it is hoped that 642 million dollar project will be completed on time and under budget. The finished project is expected to decrease the congestion and traffic delays of an airport that sees over 2 million visitor yearly. Although the market demand has dropped significantly for rental cars in the midst of the current recession, officials believe that the demand will increase in the coming years.
