It appears that Kansas City International Airport has just recently ran into some good news. This time the good news comes in the form of its on-time performance. Apparently the airport ran on time about 87.3 percent of the time during April, according to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics.

This topped the industry’s on time average for the month, which was 85.3 percent. It was also an improvement from Kansas City International Airport’s April 2009 results, which showed an on-time performance of 84.66 percent.

However, Southwest Airlines, which is the largest carrier at Kansas City International Airport, and has about 41 percent of the market shares in April, came in below the industry average. In fact, the carrier only flew about 84.11 percent of its flights on time during this period.

Delta Air Lines, which has a market share of about 15.8 percent at Kansas City International Airport, flew on time some 87.07 percent of the time. Even Frontier Airlines flew on time less often than Kansas City International Airport’s average. This airline only flew on time 87.07 percent of the time in April.

Just last month the bureau reported that the fourth quarter average airfare in Kansas City was $278.60, which is about 12.7 percent less than the national average of $319.31 during the same period. This is yet more good news for Kansas City International Airport.

Experts say that it’s good to see an airport getting some good news. Lately a lot of the media that has been surrounding the airline industry has been bad. It’s refreshing to see a change in pace.
