OnAir has revealed that they have signed a contract with Wataniya Airways, a new full-service luxury carrier based in Kuwait. The Mobile OnAir solution is going to be fitted on the new Airbus A320 fleet of the airline to provide full connectivity services in-flight.

Starting January next year, which is when Wataniya Airways will begin their operations, passengers will have the opportunity to stay connected during their flight, using their mobiles or BlackBerry devices for text messaging and checking or sending email. This option will not be activated by the carrier initially, however. Passengers will also have access to the Internet for using laptops that have GSM data cards.

The fees, which will be set by the mobile operators, will appear automatically on the mobile phone bill of the passenger at rates that are similar to roaming charges overseas. Other than that, there will not be any other additional fees.

George Cooper, the Chief Executive Officer of Wataniya Airways, said that passengers who are traveling with them can anticipate to be allowed to stay in touch while they fly for both personal and business reasons, and the Mobile OnAir solution will help them meet this goal. Wataniya Airways is the first Middle Eastern airline to initiate SwiftBroadband across their fleet, he continued, and this will help make sure that they maintain the highest service levels for their demanding clients.

Benoit Debains, the Chief Executive Officer of OnAir, said that Wataniya Airways made their passenger service a high priority, and OnAir is pleased the airline has recognized their SwiftBroadband capability as providing passenger connectivity of the highest standard available.
