With all of the news about overweight passengers recently, it should come as no shock that larger people are starting to feel a bit uncomfortable to fly. Overall, it has become awkward for these people to even go to the airport, nevertheless get on a plane.

However, it’s hard to blame them when people read the kind of articles that are posted around the internet and in newspapers. Many reports claim that some people feel that overweight passengers should pay more for an extra seat. Thus, when an overweight person goes to the airport, they cannot help but to think what fellow passengers could be thinking about them.

So, what does this mean for the airline industry? Well this comes as another big blow, overall. By singling out these passengers, whether it was meant to happen or not, they are cutting out another form of income. Normally this may not be a big deal, but since the airline industry is in such a fragile state right now, every little bit of money helps.

Experts have already been saying that, despite the fact that the airline industry is starting to recover, it will not take much to bring it crashing down. Experts have been warning airlines not to increase fees or prices on tickets just yet, because it could deter people from flying. However, some people may be deterred from flying right now because of all the awkward feelings that are in the media about overweight passengers. Thus, all of this negative press about overweight passengers could be causing more harm to the airline industry than what people give it credit for.
