According to reports, 15 people were just recently injured when the tires of a JetBlue plane caught fire on Thursday during a hard landing at Sacramento Airport. The 15 people had only minor injuries as they were sent down emergency slides to escape the aircraft.
One passenger, Michelle McDuffie, said that people on the plane felt a thud when the plane touched down at about 12:50 pm. The plane had been coming from Long Beach. However, no one on the plane thought that there was an emergency until the crew shouted for everyone to exit on the inflatable slides. McDuffie went on to say that she saw the tires burning as soon as she was on the ground.
Later on McDuffie said that she was happy that she did not got hurt. However, in the end she did wish that she would have gotten her bag off the plane before going down the emergency shoot.
According to a spokeswoman for Jetblue, Sharon Jones, said that the plane appeared to experience trouble with its breaks. Four tires then blew out during the landing.
The good news was that the Sacramento Fire Department was on the scene within the first four minutes of being dispatched. They were escorted to the runway by airport security. The firefighters were able to extinguish the tires on the plane with very little problem.
Overall, this was a very minor event that was handled very well by the Jetblue staff. It is always important for crews to help keep everyone claim in an event like this. Although the problem was not too serious, it could have turned into something more if everyone started to panic.
