Good news for Southwest Airlines passengers as the carrier announces that it will be adding new flights to its schedule as soon as next March. Although this is good news, the airline is very quick to pint out that, despite these new flights, the company is not back into growth mode just yet.
The new schedule will cover March 14 through May 7. The flights can be booked with the carrier already. Southwest Airlines has also pointed out that some airports are going to notice notable increases. Places like Chicago will get 21 more daily flights, and Baltimore will get 18. Other places like Tampa and Orlando will get 9 more flights each.
According to Southwest Airlines, they will start their nonstop service between Baltimore’s BWI and Boston’s Logan Airport in August. It will add two weekday nonstop flights, bringing its grand total up to seven.
Overall, Southwest Airlines will be adding 62 round trip flights and eliminating 10 round trip flights for a total net gain of 52. It could be viewed as 104 one way flights as well. This new March schedule reflects seasonal travel patterns where demand has increased during the spring.
The Dallas-based carrier says that it will be able to add all of these flights and will not have to add on to its fleet at all. This is by taking advantage of a seasonal decrease in flying times because of lower air traffic. Although most passengers will not understand what Southwest Airlines is talking about, the important thing to note is that new flights will be available to passengers very soon.
