One of the biggest names in the United States’ airline industry, Southwest Airlines, has now announced its new green plane. This is a new plane that will use not only environmentally friendly products, but will also focus on customer comfort and reduce weight. The plane itself is a Boeing 737-700 aircraft and it will be used as a test environment for many ideas that Southwest Airlines wants to try.
The chairman, President, and CEO of Southwest Airlines, Gary Kelly, said that Southwest Airlines has always and will remain committed to leading the industry in emissions reductions through fuel efficiency. He went on to point out that efficiency in fuel consumption does not only benefit the environment, but it benefits the company as well by saving money. Gary went on to say that the company looks to the future, and they know that climate change will remain a very vital part of the new airline industry. Thus, Southwest Airlines wants to work hard every day in every area to make sure their customers are happy.
Overall, this new green plane is suppose to reduce the weight on board by five pounds per seat. This is a number that really starts to add up over the whole plane. Thus, it goes without saying that the reduced weight will help the plane to use up less fuel, which will in turn save the company money and cut down on carbon emissions.
Of course, Southwest Airlines is not the only airline in the world that is working on making their aircrafts eco friendly. Right now many airlines around the world are fighting hard against other forms of travel like high speed trains, which are more eco friendly and less costly.
