Experts are now saying that a lot of the bigger name airlines are now watching low cost carriers’ moves to see just how much customers are willing to pay. Unfortunately, one low budget airline, Spirit Airlines will soon be charging as much as $45 each way for a carry on bag. This is a fee that bigger airlines have yet to try, but now experts say the move may not be far off.
This charge will be applied to bags in the overhead bin. Personal items that fit under the seat will still be free to take on the plane. This new charge of $45 is paid at the gate. However, customers can get away with paying just $30 if they pay in advance.
So when can people be looking forward to this new charge on Spirit Airlines? Well according to the airline, it will start charging this fee by August 1st. Spirit says a new fare reduction means most customers won’t really pay more to fly. It says having fewer carry on bags will help them empty out planes faster. Spirit Airlines also charges to check luggage.
Although the new fare reduction means that people may not notice the charge now, they may noticed it later when fare prices start to go back up. Also, although Spirit Airlines is just a minor player in the aviation world, bigger airlines are likely to see how customers react to paying this high fee. Since most people are not going to even noticed the new charge due to the reduced ticket prices, it is very likely that most customers won’t have anything to say about it.
