SriLankan Airlines has announced the beginning of non-stop direct return flights between London and the Maldives. Prior to this new service, United Kingdom passengers who were bound for the Maldives with SriLankan Airlines had to return to London through Colombo. The carrier currently operates 8 Colombo to London Flights.

 

Kaushal Seneviratne, the Regional Manager of the United Kingdom, Europe, and Americas for SriLankan Airlines, said that the Maldives is a destination of choice among holidaymakers from the United Kingdom, as well as other travelers throughout Europe, and it is a market that is growing very quickly. Sri Lanka and SriLankan Airlines have had close ties with the Maldives, Seneviratne continued, and they are excited to be strengthening their relationship via this new non-stop service.

 

Over 850,000 tourists made a visit to the Maldives during last year, a majority of them coming from Europe. This nation, located in the Indian Ocean, is popular for having crystal clear water, coral reefs that are swarming with fish of every color and hue, as well as pristine beaches. This is a very popular destination among tourists with high incomes, along with honeymooners and enthusiasts of water sports.

 

SriLankan Airlines is going to operate their long-haul fleet of Airbus A340-300 planes on the route, which lasts for 11 hours. The carrier’s fleet of aircrafts consist of many comforts, like a backseat televisions that have 18 channels, 16 video games, and 22 audio channels on every seat to choose from. Also, passengers who sit in business class seats get a choice of watching movies.
