The very infamous JetBlue Airways flight attendant who was accused of sliding down a plane’s emergency chute with a beer after cursing out passengers, Steven Slater, had his day in court on Tuesday. He will get another day in court on October 19. Slater agreed to be evaluated by a mental health professional before his case was adorned.

Slater did not speak during his brief appearance on criminal mischief charges. Slater’s defense team and the District Attorney’s office are reportedly in negotiations for a plea deal that would require Slater to attend anger management classes and alcohol abuse counseling. The charges against Slater would then be lowered to just misdemeanors, violations, or perhaps dropped all together.

Daniel J. Horowitz, the defense attorney, said he was working to resolve the situation favorably but had no further comment at that point in time. Slater was charged with reckless endangerment and, of course, trespassing after last month’s meltdown aboard a JetBlue Airways flight. Horowitz said that passengers’ lack of civility lead to this behavior.

After the recent hearing, Slater stepped into a waiting car and pulled away. Slater became water cooler talk for days after his August 9 meltdown. A lot of online groups have started to call Slater a hero for the way he told off the rude passengers. Employees who work with the general public say that people are always rude, and they are sick of dealing with it.

Horowitz went on to say last Sunday that Slater quit his job at JetBlue last Wednesday after he had been suspended following the on board antics he was charged with committing. JetBlue confirmed that Slater was not longer an employee with them.
