Flight attendants on a United Airlines flight were made to duct tape one of their passengers to her seat when she allegedly hit one of the crew members’ buttocks just before falling on a blind passenger. Flight 645 of United Airlines was made to land in North Carolina, following Maria Esther Castillo becoming unruly.

Ms. Castillo, 45 and from New York, is to show up in court for charges of interfering with the flight crew’s operations and resisting arrest on the Chicago from Puerto Rico flight. Allegedly, Ms. Castillo hit a flight attendant with the back of her hand on their buttocks just before she fell onto a blind passenger’s head and proceeded to pull their hair, according to a report from the FBI.

The ankle cuffs that they used on Ms. Castillo to restrain her kept slipping off. That is when the flight crew, along with two of the passengers, decided to use duct tape so that she would stay in her seat. The flight, which was bound for Chicago, had to land at the Charlotte-Douglass International Airport in North Carolina. The woman calmed down when the pilot changed the destination, but became unruly again when the authorities got onto the aircraft to remove her.

Peter Carricato, FBI Special Agent, reported that another passenger saw the woman drinking alcohol at the airport in Puerto Rico before getting onto the plane, and then bought another drink during the flight. The flight attendants then stopped serving the alcohol to her due to her behavior, he added.
