Airport officials have confirmed that an airline, which was en route to San Francisco at the time, was diverted to Salt Lake City. Although officials would not confirm just why the plane was diverted most believe it to be due to a bomb threat.
The Superintendent of the Salt Lake City Airport Operations, Dave Korzep, said that FBI and airport police are on scene searching the plane for a bomb. He went on to say that there were a total of 193 passengers and six crew members on board United Airlines Flight 741. There were buses that were waiting to transport passengers to the terminal when the all clear was given for them to exit the plane.
Dave Korzep did note that he did not have any details that he knew or could give out about the bomb threat. The FBI in Salt Lake City said it could not confirm anything at this point in time. A spokesperson for United Airlines said that the flight was diverted as a precaution. However, the airline did not confirm that there was a bomb threat made.
Right now all airlines and airports are taking everything very seriously. Governments from around the world have been doing everything in their power to make sure that flights are secure and safe for passengers.
The big jump in airline security came just following a failed bombing on board a flight that was bound for the United States. Although the bomb failed to go off, which could have been a Christmas Day disaster, people were still shocked at the fact that someone was able to get on a plane so easily with a bomb.
