Many of the major airlines in the United States have now added more flights to help all of the stranded travelers get back home. These extra flights were added as of Monday to accommodate the people who had their travel plans disrupted by the massive snowstorm that dumped as much as two feet of snow in the Northeast.

The snowstorm covered cities from Washington, D.C. All the way to Boston. This resulted in a lot of closures and, of course, a lot of significant delays at airports. In the end, a lot of flights had to be canceled just days before Christmas, causing even more travel chaos.

A spokeswoman for Atalanta-based Delta Airlines, the world’s largest air carrier, said that all airports are open and their flights are now running normally. She said that Delta has already added about 6,500 additional seats to the flight schedules as of Monday. Most of these seats come from the 22 added flights to heavily impacted areas. A lot of the other routes have now been upgraded to planes that have more seats to serve more travelers.

American Airlines added at least 15 extra flights to areas like Washington, Boston and New York, as they had canceled about 325 flights from December 18th through December 20th. This was a very similar number of canceled flights for the carrier’s regional affiliate, American Eagle.

With so many airlines adding more flights, people should still be getting to where they want to go in time for the holidays. Now that the big snowstorm has past, most flights and routes are running like normal.
