The European Parliament lawmakers, just last Friday, went on to demand that the U.S. Homeland Security Secretary, Janet Napolitano, ease the restrictions for Europeans traveling to the United States. They said that plans to impose a new $10 entry fee is just plain unfair.

Citizens from many different European Union countries already have to fill in an online visa waiver form before they are even allowed to travel to the United States. However, now they could face an additional charge when they arrive in the United States as well. This is something that many European officials are claiming is unfair.

The Austrian lawmaker, Ernst Strasser, went on to say that these new measures are even harder than what was seen under the previous United States government, and that is something that the European Parliament is not willing to accept. He said that they really have to insist on their European values.

Many other lawmakers all over have asked the United States Congress and President Barack Obama to ditch this $10 fee. However, Janet Napolitano said that she could accept a review of the existing transfer of airline passenger data deal, but rejections to drop the new fee will still have to be signed by Barack Obama.

She went on to say that, unlike many other countries, the United States does not have a separate agency to promote tourism and travel. Thus, the goal of this new fee is to actually fund and help the tourists and travelers who wish to come to the United States. In that respect, she thinks that it is not only reasonable, but in these days of reduced government budgets, it’s the only way to fund the travel and tourism industry.
